Your Face Changed It All

YOUR FACE CHANGED IT ALL – Rick Jordan, 2023
Standing there in your flowing tresses
With a box of boutique dresses
And a flower in your hair – you made me stare
And your face changed it all
On the corner where I saw you
That moment when I first knew
You cast your glance at me and I could see
Your face had changed it all
Strike a match and let it spark
Take the cold out of the dark
Fan the flame ‘til it’s bright
Let it burn all night
Your hand brushed against mine
Sent a bolt right down my spine
I saw the feeling in your eyes
Such a surprise
From the face that changed it all
Cup of coffee conversation
Never losing that sensation
As we strolled the avenue – we both knew
Your face had changed it all
Love is such a mystery
Comes unexpectedly
You think you’ll never fall
But one face can change it all
Thinkin’ back to that first day
When you drove my doubts away
With that flower in your hair
You made me stare
And your face changed it all
Since that time we’ve been together
Sunny days and stormy weather
We staked our claim and trusted in the flame
Knowing that we’d changed it all
Strike a match and let it spark
Take the cold out of the dark
Fan the flame until it’s bright
Let it burn all night
Let it burn all night

IT JUST FEELS RIGHT – Rick Jordan, 2023
Like the sound of the sea on a cold gray day
In the mornin’ light
Or the way it feels when my baby holds me tight
It’s that little bit of magic and it just feels right
When the sun’s shinin’ through silver drops of dew
And your heart’s alight
Or the coffee’s dark and strong when the day’s been long
You welcome night
It’s that little bit of magic and it just feels right
Somebody’s blowin’ on a jug and we’re all feelin’ fine
Hearts knit it harmony, voices loud and strong
It’s the magic of our life’s song
When the moon shines on a lake and the shimmer that it makes
Is a wonderous sight
Or the sound of a child’s laughter fills you with delight
They’re those little bits of magic and they feel just right
Somebody’s blowin’ on a jug and we’re all feelin’ fine
Hearts knit it harmony, voices loud and strong
It’s the magic of our life’s song
Hearts knit in harmony, voices loud and strong
It’s the magic of our life’s song

TRAVELIN’ LIGHT – Rick Jordan 2023
Travelin’ light like a gypsy in the night
Got nobody that I have to see
No place that I have to be
Just roll along headin’ down the highway
Where I belong
Drivin’ all night if the music suits me right
Radio stations mine to choose
Rock in roll or Delta blues
Just roll along headin’ down the highway
To my own song
And I don’t know how long this road might be
Or exaxctly where it’s takin’ me
I only know the call is strong
And it keeps me movin’ on, movin’ on
Travelin’ light
The road I roam, long black strip I call my home
Keeps my heart on the mend
As I round another bend feelin’ free
Headin’ down the highway
Just bein’ me
I don’t know how long this road might be
Or exaxctly where it’s takin’ me
I only know the call is strong
And it keeps me movin’ on, movin’ on
Travelin’ light, travelin’ light, travelin’ light…

The Perfect Time

THE PERFECT TIME – Rick Jordan, 2023
Sittin’ there in your easy chair and your drink is goin’ flat
Actin’ like you just don’t care – I’m not goin’ for that
Turned away as if to say, “Don’t even think about it”
But the way you swayed when the music played
Is causin’ me to doubt it
And if you were gonna love me this might be the perfect time
While there’s whiskey in that bottle and your perfume’s on my mind
Doesn’t have to be forever, tonight would be just fine
So if you were gonna love me, darlin’, this might be the perfect time
The perfect time
I gave you my most endearing smile but to judge by your expression
Some old toothy crocodile might have made the same impression
I must have judged you completely wrong ‘cause you’re not as cold as ice
You sang along with every song and you checked your makeup twice
Checked your makeup twice
So if you were gonna love me this might be the perfect time
While there’s whiskey in that bottle and your perfume’s on my mind
Doesn’t have to be forever, tonight would be just fine
So if you were gonna love me, darlin’, this might be the perfect time
And we don’t have to tell our friends about it
No promises will be made
And they’ll be no one to doubt it
And no bills left unpaid
So if you were gonna love me this might be the perfect time
While there’s whiskey in that bottle and your perfume’s on my mind
Doesn’t have to be forever, tonight would be just fine
So if you were gonna love me, darlin’, this might be the perfect
Might be the perfect - Might be the perfect time

You Are The Seasons

YOU ARE THE SEASONGS – Rick Jordan, 2023
Long before winter’s shadow left my window for the spring
And flowers filled the woodlands with the promises they bring
I remember how the sunlight danced in colors on your skin
And your hair became a wild red storm in the fingers of the wind
So when I think about the seasons and their customary clues
Their rhymes and their reasons, they bring me back to you
Bring me back to you
Before summer’s heat surrendered at the touch of autumn’s chill
And the leaves of gold and crimson lay in tatters on the hill
I remember how the moonlight wrapped your body in its glow
And my ears filled with the song of your breathing soft and low
So when I think about the seasons and their customary clues
Their rhymes and their reasons, they bring me back to you
Bring me back to you
Baby you’re the seasons, seasons are you
Rhymes and reasons for all that’s true
And when they’re with me I’m with you
‘Cause you’re the seasons, seasons are you
Winter, summer, spring and fall
Baby you became them all every week and every day
You’re in them in every way
You are the seasons, seasons are you
You are the reason for all I do
And when you’re with me I’m with you

NOODLIN’ ON SUNDAY – Rick Jordan, 2023
Daddy’s got the game playin’ on the radio
Momma’s got her pocket book, she’s headin’ out the door
Sister’s in the bathroom puttin’ on her face
And little brother’s in his box playin’ outer space
But I’m sittin’ here noodling on Sunday
Neighbors in the backyard for a barbecue
Knockin’ back some suds, sounds like they’ve had a few
Burgers and dogs burnin’ on the grill
I guess that gives some folks a thrill
But I’m sittin’ here noodlin’ on Sunday
Sunday is the day some folks like to rest
Others get all gussied up in their very best
They go for a ride in the family car
But all I want to do is play my guitar
Uncle’s on his motorbike rumblin’ down the street
Got the chrome all polished up and lookin’ pretty sweet
Asks me to get on behind and join him for a cruise
Shakes his head in disbelief when I have to refuse
‘Cause I’d rather be noodlin’ on Sunday
Sunday is the day some folks like to rest
Others get all gussied up in their very best
They go for a ride in the family car
But all I want to do is play my guitar

YOU AIN’T GOT NO REASON (TO BE COLD) – Rick Jordan, 2023
When it’s chilly outdoors and you can’t find your coat
And you’re shakin’ like the tail on some old Billy goat
Don’t let that North Wind take you by the throat
You ain’t got no reason to be cold
If there’s frost on the ground and ice on the pond
You can’t seem to put enough layers on
Don’t think about freezin’
‘Cause you ain’t got no reason to be cold
As long as you are next to me
You’ll never shiver through the night
I’ve got all the warmth that you’ll ever need
All you have to do is hold me tight
Hold me tight come on baby
Hold me tight and just maybe
You will see that I was right
And you won’t be cold tonight
When the rain starts to fall and the wind begins to howl
You’re thinkin’ ‘bout throwin’ in the towel
It doesn’t matter if your teeth begin to chatter
You ain’t got no reason to be cold
If you’re longin’ for the sun and your bones begin to ache
Don’t give up hope for goodness sake
‘Cause I am here for pleasin’ you ain’t got no reason
To be cold
if you think that Old Man Winter’s got it in for you
You couldn’t be more wrong if you tried
I got a nice fire goin’ right here for you
So come on and lay down by my side
As long as you are next to me
You’ll never shiver through the night
I’ve got all the warmth that you’ll ever need
All you have to do is hold me tight
Hold me tight come on baby
Hold me tight and just maybe
You will see that I was right
And you won’t be cold tonight
Just hold me tight

Ordinary Day

ORDINARY DAY – Rick Jordan 2023
When I woke up this mornin’ I burned the toast again
But you just scraped it off - ate it with a grin
We washed and dried the dishes then put them all away
It was just the beginning of an ordinary day
While workin’ in the garden I said, “What this place needs
Is a lot more concrete - not so many weeds”
But you shook your spade at me, frowned and said,
“No way,” and I had to surrender on an ordinary day
An ordinary day may seem just like another
Nothin’ to write home about
Spendin’ time together
No cause for fights or fireworks I will tell you true
One thing that was special was you
The one thing that was special was you
The one thing that was special was you
Dinner needed fixin’s so to the store we drove
Came back home and cooked some spaghetti on the stove
I teased you when you spilled the sauce
You said, “Two can play,” and tossed a noodle in my face
On that ordinary day
An ordinary day may seem just like another
Nothin’ to write home about
Spendin’ time together
No cause for fights or fireworks I will tell you true
The one thing that was special was you
The one thing that was special was you
The one thing that was special was you
Bedtime rolled around as that old moon rose
And I made you laugh by counting all the freckles on your nose
Then you kissed me with such tenderness
You took my breath away and made the perfect ending
For an ordinary day
An ordinary day may seem just like another
Nothin’ to write home about
Spendin’ time together
No cause for fights or fireworks but I will tell you true
One thing that was special was you
The one thing that was special was you
The one thing that was special was you

A Second Look

A SECOND LOOK – Rick Jordan, 2023
You worked so hard for so long now
Making the ends meet somehow
Kids came first that was your rule
Get ‘em up and off to school
Live for them only
But now they’re gone out on their own
That job is done those seeds are grown
And you have time too much it seems
To think about your long-lost dreams
And you’re lonely
And lonely’s not the way to live
When you’ve so much more to give
Not the way you thought you’d be
Not the way to be free
Dreams wait patiently
Petals pressed between the pages
Of a book
There to be set free
When given a second look
So you buy a dress and draw a stare
From someone who’s been waiting there
A smile is shared, a gentle kiss,
And your heart soars with newfound bliss
Flowers bloom, sun parts the clouds,
And you shrug off those lingering shrouds
Of lonely
As lonely’s not the way to live
When you’ve so much more to give
Not the way you have to be
Now that you have been set free
Dreams wait patiently
Petals pressed between the pages
Of a book
There to be set free
When given a second look

A Song For You

A SONG FOR YOU – Rick Jordan, 2023
If I’m out on a cloudy day faced with sorrow and dismay
And my thoughts are cold and gray
You’ll chase those clouds away
And this is a song for you, you know it’s true
And I want to sing it through just for you
And if rain should start to fall, makin’ me feel meek and small
All I have to do is call and you’ll drive away that squall
And this is a song for you, you know it’s true
And I want to sing it through just for you
I’m such a lucky fella havin’ you for my umbrella
And with you by my side sunny days will abide
And this is a song for you, know it’s true
And I want to sing it through just for you
Yes I want to sing it through just for you
Just for you
